About

My name is Christina and if you’ve read my Services page you know that your job is to write a great story and my job is to help keep your readers immersed in that story.

If you choose the traditional publishing route, your book must first pass muster with an agent or a reader at a publishing house; no easy feat. If your book is filled with errors, not only will they reject it, but likely they’ll not even glance at any further submissions with your name on them.

For this reason, and because it can often be more lucrative, self-publishing is becoming increasingly popular. But do not be deceived! Self-publishing your book will not make your readers less discerning nor less critical. Readers will not be more forgiving about messy grammar and continuity errors simply because you chose to self-publish, perhaps even the opposite.

When a reader picks up a book produced by a major publishing house and sees a spelling mistake, they sub-consciously forgive the author and blame the faceless publisher. But when they read your self-published book, the reader has only you, the author, to blame. Bottom line: too many mistakes will stop readers from purchasing your books.

So if you’re trying to get your book in front of an agent, it’s imperative that your book is properly edited before they see it. And if you’re planning to self-publish, it’s even more important that your book look and sound as professional as possible before you publish.

That’s where I come in.

How am I qualified to edit your book?

First off, I’m a writer, like you. For over a decade I worked at a graphic design company that produced magazines and other publications for major corporations across Canada. I wrote and edited articles for their magazines, acquiring many years of editing experience. While staying home with my children I continued to complete university courses in editing fiction, fiction writing, screenwriting, poetry, and autobiographies. I’m currently working on a computer programming degree because being tech savvy in this world of Kindles and iPads dovetails nicely with the publishing industry and the direction it’s heading in. I also work closely with an agent who helps new authors with the promotional aspects of self-publishing so if you’re looking for help in that arena, I can hook you up!

And who am I?

I’m a writer. I’m a mother. Both have taught me that life doesn’t always go the way we plan, and that following our dreams while being true to our passions is the only way to find joy and satisfaction in life. I’m passionate about writing and about helping other writers produce the best versions of their stories. I’m excited at the prospect of helping you make your book stronger, to make it the best version of itself and I invite you to get started by heading over to my Contact page and sending me an email. Include any questions you have about my services or the process and, if you want, include a page of your writing for a sample of the kind of editing I do.
